Messaging

Private messages, the ignores and the chat channels. Everything on this page works on the proxy, so it works between players who are on different servers.

Private messages

CommandWhat it does
/message <player> <message>A private message.
/reply <message>An answer to the last private message.
/ignore <player>Ignore a player.
/unignore <player>Stop ignoring a player.
/messagetoggle on|offSwitch the private messages on or off.

None of these needs a permission — every player may use them.

The aliases

/message answers to /msg, /w, /m, /t, /pm, /emsg, /epm, /tell, /etell, /whisper and /ewhisper.

/reply answers to /r, /er and /ereply.

/ignore answers to /eignore.

/unignore answers to /eunignore, /delignore, /edelignore, /remignore, /eremignore, /rmignore and /ermignore.

/messagetoggle answers to /msgtoggle.

The message

The text after the name is the message, spaces included. The other side sees your name and the text.

The message goes through the chat filter: a curse word is taken out of it before it is sent, and the staff are told about it.

TIP

/message and /reply need the other player to be online. The /ignore and /unignore commands do not — you can ignore somebody who is not playing.

/reply

/reply answers the last player who sent you a private message. That player is remembered, also when you log out and back in — but there is no time limit: a reply from yesterday still goes to the same person.

If you never received a private message, there is nobody to reply to and the plugin says so. If the person you last heard from is offline, that is said as well.

/ignore

An ignored player cannot send you a private message. You are told that you cannot message somebody who has ignored you, and the message is not sent.

The ignore list is remembered when you log out and back in.

/messagetoggle

/messagetoggle on
/messagetoggle off

This switch is about the messages you receive: with it off, nobody can write to you any more. You can still write to other people.

WARNING

This command takes on or off — true and false do not work here. (The economy command /togglepay on the backend is the other way round: it takes true and false.)

The chat channels

A player can write in a different channel than the global chat.

/chat all
/chat party
/chat message
/chat staff

/chat answers to /c, and the channels have short aliases of their own: /chat a, /chat p, /chat m and /chat s.

ChannelWhat it does
allThe global chat, the one everybody sees.
partyOnly the members of your party. You have to be in a party.
messageOnly the player you last wrote to. You have to have somebody.
staffOnly the staff. Needs appeltools.command.staff.staffchat.

After you choose a channel, everything you type in chat goes to that channel and not to the global chat. /chat all puts you back.

The channel is remembered when you log out and back in. When the channel you chose is no longer possible — you left the party, your message target went offline, you lost the staff permission — you are put back on the global chat and told why.

TIP

There is also /pchat <message> (/pc) for the party chat. It needs no permission, and it works whether or not you have switched to the party channel.
